As Winter Changes The Trees
I feel quite Wuthering Heights in this look--completely with a windy day and overgrown field setting. Since I am American my picture of the wild moors mentioned in the book is probably quite inaccurate from the literal moors the Brontë sisters would have been familiar with. But I do admire and have some familiarity with spots of untamed nature--places with fields with weeds free to grow like this one, the tall untouched trees of the West Coast, even the power of the ocean's surf on a rocky shore...
“My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods: time will change it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Healthcliff! He's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.”
