Metropolis

I don't usually post menswear or workwear inspired clothes (I'm much more of a sucker for frills), but the Levi's Metropolis collection looks as if it was ripped from the pages of a vintage LIFE magazine and is too good not to share. I mean, compare these images to this famous photograph from 1932. For being such a good vintage replica, I can't deny the fact that the models also look decidedly handsome in their duds. Hard to say if it'll translate as well to streetwear though, I definitely have a slight crush on Cary Grant but those crazy highwaist pants? No thanks.

What's Inside You Fall 2014

I only recently stumbled across the line What's Inside You by (street style photographer favorite) Eleonora Carisi and I'm enjoying her lipstick prints and rich brocade pieces. It's a clothing line designed for "women who know what they want and are not afraid to express themselves in their different facets, to be different every day but always unique." The printed pieces are the real stunners, but phrase sweatshirts and perfectly proportioned skirts will also suit a more casual-style dresser.

Away We Go

One of my less impressive aspirations in life is to go to a swanky, old-style hotel and have a bellboy collect my (obviously gorgeous looking) luggage in a birdcage luggage cart...I mean, it's just so old Hollywood and glamorous-looking. So yeah, even if it was only for one day I'd like to pretend my luggage is that impractical, vintage set and have it whisked up to my suite with a view in a beautiful brass cart...Because of this rather ridiculous fantasy Shop Ruche's recent lookbook holds a lot of appeal to me. Don't we all want to be this girl? For now we'll just have to settle for buying her clothes...

Book of Deer A/W 2014

Season after season I'm such a fan of Book of Deer's quirky, personal clothes. Simple skirts are made special with tiny bear embroidery, blouses are spun in light blue branch print, and "basics" come in the form of cozy velvet with antler zipper pulls. Every piece always feels thoughtful and unique. My glow-in-the-dark firefly dress from this collection a few seasons back is still a favorite and it's wonderful to see her collections continue to get better and better...
And even though it's a bit early to be thinking of spring--take a peek at Book of Deer's S/S 2015 collection. Clothes pin print? I'm pretty excited about it.

Heinui F/W 2014

Since I'm wearing an old Heinui dress in this morning's post it seems like an appropriate time to look at Heinui's latest collection. As with previous seasons it's all about killer details like buttons that resemble screws, sailor collars, and beautiful embroidery. The collection is titled "Makers" and you can see busy hands at work tying knots on the front of smocks and printed all over delicate silk. It's becoming a mantra for me, but I love how the collection manages to be classic without being boring--these are pieces you can wear this season and for many to come.

Betina Lou Fall 2014

Betina Lou collections are always my favorite for classic styling inspiration. Each season they manage to whip-up a variety of clothes and accessories that look timeless without being boring. This season is no exception; the striped dresses, pleated skirts, and sweaters will look good this season and next. I enjoy their lookbooks as much for styling inspiration as shopping--I love the little knit caps paired with ladylike ensembles, the belted sweaters over full skirts, and preppy shorts over tights.

The Parent Trap

One of my favorite childhood movies The Parent Trap (both the Hayley Mills and Lindsey Lohan version!) served as inspiration for Lazzari's fall lookbook. Most lookbooks don't have such a strong narrative, but this beautiful story-telling series has me desiring a trip to camp and some new clothes. How lovely is that blue mohair coat? The whole collection of images has me wondering what other childhood films could make a beautiful editorial or fashion lookbook?
