My Everyday Makeup Routine

I don't really mix up my makeup routine very often, but when I dyed my hair blonde I did make a few alterations--adding in a highlighter (finally found one that works on super pale skin!) and a more nude lip color. It's not a big change, but since I occasionally get questions on my makeup I thought an updated post on my routine was in order. For me the focus is always my eyes (I can't remember the last time I went without winged eyeliner) so everything else is designed to work around that.

Pink Spring

All things pink are growing on me--more pink dresses, more bright pink lipstick and I've even added a few pink dinosaur bobby pins to the Etsy shop!

Bronzed

Makeup used: Lancome noir liquid eyeliner, Josie Maran eyeshadow in Rio De Rose Gold and Sephora eyeshadow in copper shimmer
Wearing: Gardens of Whimsy crown, Sheinside dress, and Cloud Pearls necklace
Summer makeup trends seem to be all about the bronzer--that sun kissed glow, you know? However, as a pale as a ghost person who always gets "Casper" jokes at the beach, bronzer is simply a no-go. Even when I get color it tends to be pink, so the closest I get to a summer glow makeup-wise is a warm blush with flecks of gold in it and playing with bronze-y eyeshadows. I built this look around my Cloud Pearls necklace by layering a couple of different eyeshadows and trying to look as sun kissed as someone with my skin tone can...

Green Eyed Monster

Wearing my typical makeup routine with Sephora eye pencil in Golden Green on my bottom lash line, Buxom Lip Stick in Athens, and Butter nail polish in Trout Pout.
Summer of the under-eyeliner? Perhaps. I'm too addicted to my usually winged black eyeliner on top to change that often, but since my experiments with Chanel-inspired makeup I've been playing around with my bottom lash line more and more. Today I'm playing with a blue-green color to suit my favorite vintage fascinator; it lets me inject some summer color into my makeup routine without being too overwhelming for my face or style.

Classy Girls Wear Pearls Or Not

Wearing: my typical makeup routine, plus Chanel Rouge Coco, Stila eyeshadow, Lancome eyeliner, and earrings from Etsy.
Of all the idioms I've heard "classy girls wear pearls" might be my least favorite. It could in part be due to the fact I've never been much of a pearl-wearer as shinier objects are more attractive to me, or the fact that I find the word "classy" a contradiction in terms. I mean, is there a less classy way of saying classic or refined than "classy" it doesn't remotely sound like what it supposedly means. I'm also curious about the origins of the phrase--any time I hear or read something I like I want to know the source because a tainted source can change the whole meaning. Besides all of that: I'm opposed to any supposed rule book for proper behavior in being labeled a lady, it's always subjective to culture and generation. Besides when shouldn't have to behave or dress a certain way in order to receive a label indicating respect--respect should be our default response for everyone.
Still, even I can admit when I like something that is usually the antithesis of my preference, such as these Dior-lookalike earrings. The earrings were part of Dior's Fall 2013 collection and they've been popping up in editorials, on red carpets and street style blogs ever since. My interest was limited by the price point, but since stumbling across some on Etsy they became more desirable and affordable.

My Favorite Frames

I try to give my eyes a break; which means even if most days I'm wearing contacts I spend my evenings with glasses on. My two go to frames right now are both by Bonlook: Dolled Up in black and the Socialite frame. If it wasn't so bright outside I'd probably wear them full-time more often. Worn with my typical makeup routine and Lime Crime lipstick in Centrifuschia.
