Blog Birthday!

My blog turns seven years old today! Or rather two days ago, but I've been busy traveling and shooting this anniversary video so it is only today that I'm ready to share the final product with you. I never really know what to say when my blog birthday/anniversary rolls around--I never knew back then that I would keep at it this long! There are a number of things I wouldn't have anticipated happening back then that have come to pass, but they have and here we are. I could probably go on for a bit about what has changed and what blogging means to me but the short of it is: I really like blogging. I like taking pictures on a regular basis because it takes me outside and makes me appreciate my surroundings in a different way. I like sharing all that online and connecting to people with similar interests who I never would have "met" otherwise. I feel incredibly lucky.
Thomas helped me make this video in honor of my blog turning seven years old. It's short and sweet and just a little "thank you" to everyone's who's been following along. For seven years there are seven different outfits and locations featured in the video--I wish I could have fit in seven completely different hairstyles (long! short! red! blue!) but the video was a few days rather than seven years in the making. How To Pronounce The Hardest Names In Fashion

The fashion industry is considered a tough one, but perhaps one of the trickiest problems when maneuvering is just pronouncing names right. I even recall discussions with friends and industry people over the correct pronunciation of Proenza Schouler when they were fresh on the scene. It's understandably confusing as the names come from all over the world and are mostly seen in print rather than heard in video. i-D's cute video above not only helps teach the correct pronunciation but is a visual feast for the eyes featuring the clothes of the designers featured on some of the hottest models in the industry.

Aran Isles Rewind

On my last few days in Ireland Thomas and I took a trip to the Aran Isles; we didn't take many pictures but Thomas brought an old video camera and caught some really beautiful moments from our visit to the islands. The video camera is one from his childhood, an old 8mm Sony Handycam that he used to mess around with when he was little and recently re-found. I'm sort of quoting Thomas a lot in this post because while he didn't want to write the text the video is his so it seems only fitting to try to describe it from his perspective. Thomas works as a professional editor, so working with videos is his day-to-day but this was a fun side project, something nostalgic and almost dream-like. He wanted to capture a memory--to time travel 10 years into the future and remember what this trip was like when we were younger. I think he achieved that; a hazy, relaxed movie to watch on days when life's not a vacation. I hope you enjoy!
