Where's My Yellow Brick Road?

Here's another outfit you might recognize from my video, plus the dress I wore earlier this summer and the cardigan and shoes are old favorites. Although I'm wearing stripes instead of gingham and I'm a blonde with no braids, there's a little bit of a Dorothy in Oz feeling to this look. Perhaps any blue and white dress with red shoe combination will call to mind that film (if it doesn't just make you think patriotism). Of course, the shoes weren't red in the books nor was the Emerald City really emerald green, but I'm quite fond of both versions of the story and the movie has really cemented itself in our collective conscious.

Papillon

I usually feel as if an "outfit post" isn't an outfit post when you can't see the shoes or purse. I mean, are we to assume bare feet and no house key or wallet is practical styling? But sometimes you just want to spin around in a field of yellow flowers and your necessities get lost in the tall grass or pushed to the side for a few minutes. Between the frequent sunshine, warm temperatures, and beautiful flowers, this visit to Northern Ireland has assured me that summer here can be beautiful. People always warn you that it rains a lot in Ireland and while that is assuredly true, the country doesn't live under a perpetual rain cloud and there have even been days when I wished for a little bit of cloud coverage and a breeze to cut the heat.

Make The Boys Blush

These cheeky Locher's shirts are just as likely to make me blush as any passing stranger who might pause to read the embroidery. Still, I like the sweet with the sour, the soft with the tough as nails. My favorite shirt from them is probably the soft blue "girl you want to marry" blouse but this one makes me laugh...

Beach Bunny

A day I never thought would come has come to pass: a day when Ireland felt too hot to me! Northern Ireland is a moderate climate and having checked the weather reports before I flew I packed a variety of thigh high socks and tights options in addition to jackets and coats "just in case." I didn't anticipate a week of beautiful weather and a day where I felt like I was melting under the sun's all-consuming glare. Luckily it was the weekend and we slathered on the sunscreen and headed for the coast to enjoy a day at the beach. Normally I'd go swimming but while the air was hot the sea felt like it could hold an iceberg--dipping my toes in was enough to instantly cool me off. And on hot days it's nice to be able to wear this braided hairstyle again; it stands up so well to wind or rolled down car windows and keeps your neck cool. I made a tutorial video back in 2010 which shows how I achieve this hairstyle. My hair might be shorter and blonder, but my method remains the same.

Parkanaur Revisited

On my last visit to Parkanaur we were driven away prematurely by rain and barely got a chance to explore the grounds or their white deer. This time the weather was much better and we enjoyed a walk through the woods and deer park--next time I'm hoping to see inside the Tudor Revival house. The big stone lions might be my favorite feature; they have so much personality and the white nicely echoes the lichen growing on the house's old stone walls. My bright pink dress with it's retro-y print that reminds me of the sixties was probably not the best match for the location, but I like the contrast and how the colors pop here. These pictures are a good reminder to wear lipstick more often as well because I love the way it looks with the blonde hair. When I first dyed it I kept doing a double-take when I walked by a mirror or woke up in the morning. Big style changes often lead to a period of discomfort since we're so used to looking a certain way. But now I'm liking the look more and more and might keep my hair blonde longer than I had originally planned.
