I've Got A Compass In My Hand

I want to wrap myself in this awesome map tapestry on a hot day at the beach, but for now it's adding a lot of color and flair to my otherwise boring walls. It's making me want to go on adventures! If only the weather was slightly better...

Rosie Loves Hats

I recently stumbled across this editorial and while I like the whole outfits I'm really fixated on the hats. Seeing this definitely makes me feel like I don't own enough. How perfect are the simple shift dresses paired with comfortable flats and punctuated with quirky hats? I want every single look and I think what my closet is mostly lacking is the millinery! This editorial definitely spurred an Etsy search for cute fascinators.

A Peek At My Knit Hat Collection

thrifted hat

Aran Isles hat

These four knit hats are the ones I anticipate being in the highest rotation this winter. I have a couple of other knit hats (my grey bear-ear hat, my fox hat, a vintage white one) but I haven't been able to locate them yet this year and suspect I might have left them with Thomas in Northern Ireland. I'm quite proud of my winter accessory collection considering when I first left Hawaii to go to college on the East Coast I had one hat (the red one in this post!), one pair of gloves, and one winter coat. It was a cold winter and I definitely got tired of my winter clothes, but instead of going on a shopping haul I have steadily added to my collection a piece or two at a time. I still believe this is the best way to build a lasting collection of pieces you'll want to keep in your wardrobe. Go through the growing pains of wanting more options and not having them, but add slowly and thoughtfully. When you take the time to pick your pieces carefully then you're less likely to want to replace or get rid of them the following year.

Haters

I'm not sure if this headband by Le Vero is meant to be a message to all the haters or is labeling me as a hater, but either way I'm a fan of the headband. It's so well made and will definitely add some pizazz to any outfit (it also comes in pink & metallic gold). And since haters "gonna hate-hate-hate" here are a list of random things that drive me bonkers:
-slow Internet speeds
-people who tailgate
-cold french fries
-dog hair on dark clothes
-people who talk in movie theaters
-asking people to repeat themselves because I couldn't understand the first time

Charmed, I'm Sure

*wearing this Modcloth dress (old, similar), this makeup, and pink star hair charmsies
My hair is doing this strange ombre affect as it fades--my tips are almost completely back to being blonde! I think the cause is the pink dye I mixed into my conditioner (a tip from a couple of people about preventing fading); it seems to be working on top but I guess my tips are too saturated in the shower to hold the color as well! Anyway, it's sort of fun and making me feel like a My Little Pony. Adding to that feeling is these Charmsies I've been wearing in my hair. They were another suggestion from someone on Facebook and I thought when else will sparkles look appropriate in my hair than when it is pink? They're surprisingly hard to photograph and I thought they were rather subtle in person, but I keep getting compliments on them whenever I go out so I suppose they aren't that subtle!

Hair Desserts

I recently received some sweet accessories in the mail from Hair Dessert and I'm already addicted. They're the perfect size to actually make a statement in your hair without being overwhelming and obviously the food theme is a win. The cheeseburger was meant to be, after all I'm a burger queen.

Summer Of The Headband

In winter I wear hats out of necessity--thick knit caps that keep my body heat in and cover as much of my ears and neck as possible. It's summer when the weather warms up that I look forward to adding hair accessories from a style perspective--I love how the most minimalist summer outfit can be punctuated by a spiked headband or flower crown. This year I'm adding to my collection with some jersey turban headbands by Reif. In basic black and grey I think they'll go with a variety of outfits and bring a little something new to my typical style. All in all I'm merely excited for warmer days and more hairstyles.
